About Best Software Reviewed

We help small and mid-size businesses pick software without sitting through ten sales demos. Every product here is set up and used by our team, scored on the same four criteria, and ranked by that score and nothing else.

Why this site exists

Most software review sites are lead-generation businesses first. Vendors pay for placement, "top picks" track who pays the most, and reviews are collected with gift cards. The result looks like research and reads like an ad.

Best Software Reviewed was started by a small-business owner who had bought the wrong CRM, the wrong field-service app and the wrong accounting tool, each time on the strength of a ranking that turned out to be sponsored. We built the site we wished we'd had: hands-on testing, one scoring rubric applied to every product, and a hard wall between the editorial side and the advertising side.

How we work

  • We test, then score. Each product is set up with realistic data and used for the tasks a buyer in that category actually does. It gets four subscores (Ease, Features, Value, Support) that roll up into the BSR score.
  • Reviews are verified. Reviewers confirm they use the product before a review publishes. Unverified reviews never appear and never count.
  • Rankings are automatic. Category pages are ordered by BSR score. Nobody at the company, and no vendor, can move a product up or down.
  • Sponsorship is labeled and boxed in. Vendors can buy a clearly marked placement that sits outside the numbered list. Read the advertising disclosure.
  • We re-test. Software changes. Scores are revisited when a product ships a major release and at least once a year.

Who writes this

A small team of operators who have run the kinds of businesses this software is sold to: home services, agencies, professional services and online retail. We write in plain language because that's how we'd want it explained to us.

Research teamSets up and tests every product, maintains the feature checklists and writes the category guides.
Category editorsOwn a category end to end: the rubric, the re-test schedule and the final call on every score.
Review verificationConfirms reviewers use the product, screens for incentivized or vendor-written reviews, and publishes what passes.

Corrections

If a price, feature or fact on this site is wrong, tell us through the contact page. We correct errors on the page itself and note the date on category pages. Vendors can also request a factual correction to their own profile; we verify it against the product before changing anything, and it never changes a score.
