Jobber vs Housecall Pro: which field service app fits a small crew?
Three points apart on our scorecard, but they win different jobs. Jobber runs jobs more smoothly and costs less per seat; Housecall Pro bundles booking, reviews and marketing on its cheapest plan.
Quick verdict
If you run a home-service business with one to fifteen people in the field and you want the smoothest quote-to-invoice flow we have tested, pick Jobber. If you want online booking, review requests and lead follow-up built into the same app from day one, and you are willing to pay for a team plan, pick Housecall Pro. On our scorecard they are three points apart (Jobber 84, Housecall Pro 83), and the gap is about pricing and polish rather than missing features.
Pricing: where the real difference is
Both publish annual prices and both charge noticeably more month to month.
| Jobber | Housecall Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Solo plan | Core, $29/mo (1 user) | Basic, $59/mo (1 user) |
| Small team | Connect, $109/mo (up to 5) | Essentials, $149/mo (up to 5) |
| Growing team | Grow, $199/mo (up to 10) | Max, from $299/mo (up to 100) |
| Card processing | 2.9% + 30¢ | from 2.59% |
| Free trial | 14 days | 14 days |
The pattern holds at every tier: Jobber is cheaper for the same headcount. The catch is what Jobber leaves out of Core. A solo operator who wants online booking or the QuickBooks sync has to jump to Connect at $109, which is almost four times the entry price. Housecall Pro puts online booking, review management and financing on its $59 plan, so a one-person shop that lives on inbound bookings may spend less with Housecall Pro than with a Jobber Connect plan.
Housecall Pro's own catch is add-ons. Voice, the AI call answering, payroll, marketing campaigns and GPS hardware are all billed on top of the plan, and the app reminds you about them often. Model your real stack before you compare headline prices.
Scheduling, quoting and invoicing
This is where Jobber earned its Ease score of 9.0, the highest in the category. Quotes convert to jobs, jobs to invoices, and invoices to payments with almost no re-keying, and the client hub lets a customer approve a quote and pay from a text message without creating an account. Most of the businesses we talked to were running on it within a day.
Housecall Pro (Ease 8.8) is close. Its technician app is slightly stronger in the field, with checklists and job costing on the Essentials tier, and estimates support good/better/best options that help upsell. Where it trails is route optimization, which is basic until the Max plan.
Booking, reviews and marketing
Housecall Pro wins this section outright. Online booking, automated review requests and a lead pipeline come standard. Jobber has online booking and automated follow-ups too, but only from the Connect plan, and its marketing tools are paid add-ons.
If the question you are really asking is "which one will get me more jobs," Housecall Pro's bundle is the more complete answer at the entry level.
Support
Both offer phone and live chat, which is not a given in this category. Jobber's support scored higher in our testing (8.6 vs 8.2): faster first responses and fewer hand-offs. Housecall Pro's community of 30,000-plus pros is a real asset for how-do-I questions, and Max customers get a dedicated rep.
Who should choose Jobber
- Crews of 1 to 15 in lawn care, cleaning, HVAC, plumbing, electrical or painting
- Owners who want customers to self-serve quotes, scheduling and payment from a link
- Anyone who needs a QuickBooks Online sync that reconciles cleanly
Who should choose Housecall Pro
- Businesses that want booking, reviews and marketing in one app on the cheapest plan
- Teams of 2 to 10 that will use job costing, checklists and GPS
- Owners who want to offer customer financing in the field
Bottom line
Jobber is the better product for the core job of running jobs, and it is cheaper for the same team size. Housecall Pro is the better product for winning jobs, and its entry plan includes things Jobber makes you upgrade for. Neither handles inventory or purchase orders well, so businesses that stock parts should look at the larger platforms in our field service ranking.
