CosmoLex review
Bottom line
CosmoLex is a law firm platform that handles case management, time and billing, payments, and trust accounting in one cloud system. Its clearest strength is that trust accounting and firm accounting sit inside the same tool that tracks matters and invoices. The main cost to watch is that pricing is per user, yearly savings require annual commitment, and add-ons like CRM, websites, and e-signature are billed separately. It suits small and mid-sized firms that want to replace several tools with one system.
What is CosmoLex?
CosmoLex is cloud-based law practice management software that combines matter management with trust and firm accounting in one system. Law firms use it to organize cases, track billable time, send invoices, and keep client funds in trust, so staff do not have to move between a case tool, a billing spreadsheet, and a separate accounting package. It is built around the trust accounting rules that law firms must follow, which general accounting software does not address.
Day to day, timekeepers capture time and expenses, and those entries flow into invoices that can carry embedded payment links. Credit card, debit, and eCheck payments can be accepted directly through the platform. Built-in trust ledgers handle automatic trust transfers and holds, and staff can run bank reconciliation, including three-way reconciliation, while bank feeds pull transactions into the general ledger. Documents are stored and assembled per matter, and calendars sync with Outlook, Microsoft 365, and Google Calendar.
The product is aimed at solo practitioners, small firms, and mid-sized firms with multiple users. Pricing is per user per month across three plans: Launch at $49, Core at $99, and Pro at $129. Yearly billing saves $120 per user. Add-ons such as CRM, websites, Google Ads, and LexShare/LexSign e-signature are priced separately, and a 10-day free trial with the same functionality is available without a credit card.
What sets CosmoLex apart from general-purpose tools is that matter management, billing, payments, and accounting run in a single system rather than through connections between separate products. Its trust accounting, LEDES and split billing, and per-matter budgets are designed for legal billing. Security includes SOC 2 Type 2 audit coverage, encryption in transit and at rest, and U.S.-based data centers. Firms that already use QuickBooks Online, Dropbox, or Zapier can connect them through the platform's integrations and open REST API.
