Bottom line

Litmos is a learning management system built around compliance renewals, role-based assignments, and a large prebuilt course library. Its clearest strength is automation: certifications renew, reminders go out, and audit-ready training records are kept without manual chasing. The main costs to watch are the $8K-per-year starting price, the lack of a free plan, and add-ons such as premium content libraries and additional tenants. It suits compliance-heavy and multi-audience organizations that can budget for an annual contract.

Choose Litmos ifcompliance-heavy organizations, or teams training employees, customers, and partners together.
Look elsewhere iffreelancers and very small teams that need a free tier, or buyers who want transparent pricing for AI features.

What is Litmos?

Litmos is a learning management system built to train employees, customers, and partners on one platform. It addresses the gap between how quickly job skills, regulations, and products change and how quickly organizations can retrain people. Teams use it to assign courses, certify staff, and track completion across onboarding, compliance, sales enablement, and customer education.

Administrators build courses with the built-in Litmos Content Authoring Tool, or import existing SCORM, xAPI, and AICC content. Learning is organized into paths and assigned by role, and learners receive reminders and notifications as deadlines approach. Assessments, e-signatures, surveys, and enrollment approvals are handled inside the same system. Managers and administrators track progress through learner, leader, and admin dashboards, and certifications renew automatically when they expire.

Compliance, HR, and L&D teams are the core users, and the company names financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and software and technology as target industries. Litmos serves freelancers, small businesses, mid-size companies, and enterprises. The Foundation plan starts at $8K per year, the Platinum plan starts at $15K per year, and the Platinum AI plan is priced through sales. A free trial is offered, but there is no free plan.

What sets Litmos apart is the combination of compliance automation and a large content library. The company lists more than 17,700 courses, including catalogs for OSHA, anti-bribery, harassment prevention, data privacy, and cybersecurity, along with content delivered in 37+ languages. Integrations with tools such as Salesforce, BambooHR, Okta, Slack, and Zoom let training run alongside daily work, and the platform supports partner and channel training as well as customer education.
