UiPath review
Bottom line
UiPath is an orchestration and automation platform that combines AI agents, robotic process automation, APIs, document processing, and human approvals under one governed control plane. Its clearest strength is governance depth, including policy-as-code, tamper-evident audit logs, and certifications such as SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001. The main cost to watch is that Standard and Enterprise pricing requires contacting sales, and add-ons like performance testing and Screenplay are priced separately. Pick it for regulated or multi-system enterprise processes; smaller teams can start on the free Community tier.
What is UiPath?
UiPath is a business orchestration and automation platform that coordinates AI agents, software robots, APIs, and people across a company's processes. It addresses a common gap: point automations handle isolated tasks well but struggle when work spans several systems, waits for approvals, or needs human judgment. The platform is built to hold a process together from intake to outcome, pausing for documents or approvals and resuming exactly where it left off without losing state.
Day to day, teams build workflows in UiPath Studio using low-code tools, or in code with the UiPath SDKs inside their own IDE. Maestro Orchestrate offers three patterns: BPMN for fixed-path processes, Maestro Flow for coding-agent-first development in VS Code and other IDEs, and Maestro Case for adaptive, exception-heavy work, which is currently in preview. Document work runs through UiPath IXP, which reads complex layouts and multiple languages, and low-confidence decisions route to people with the full context attached. Test Cloud covers requirements, test cases, and test runs in one place, with agents and automations handling routine testing.
The platform serves freelancers, small businesses, mid-size companies, and enterprises. A Community tier is free forever and includes Studio and Maestro Automate. Basic starts at $25 per month with limited scale and European hosting. Standard and Enterprise are priced through sales, and Standard includes a 60-day free trial. Packaged solutions cover banking, healthcare, finance and accounting, manufacturing, and retail, including lending automation, prior authorization, and procure-to-pay.
The platform's governance layer is the main differentiator. Policies are written as code or in low-code form, versioned in Git, and enforced at runtime across access, guardrails, cost, geography, and audit. Every agent action, prompt, response, tool call, and human approval is written to a tamper-evident audit log that can be exported to a SIEM. A single agent registry manages UiPath-native agents and third-party agents from Azure AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock, LangChain, and CrewAI, and bring-your-own-model support covers OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others.
