Shippo review
Bottom line
Shippo is a multi-carrier shipping platform that connects stores and developer tools to more than 40 carriers and handles label printing, tracking, and returns. Its clearest strength is a free Starter plan with unlimited store connections and no hidden fees, which makes it easy to test at low volume. The main costs to watch are the 30-label cap on the free plan, the move to Pro for branded tracking pages and pick and pack, and Premier pricing that is available only on request. Small merchants that want to start free and platforms that need white-label shipping are the best fit.
What is Shippo?
Shippo is a shipping platform that connects online stores, marketplaces, and software products to more than 40 carriers, so sellers can compare rates, buy and print labels, track packages, and manage returns from one dashboard. It targets the manual work that slows fulfillment: boxing orders, checking rates carrier by carrier, printing labels, and emailing customers their tracking numbers. Laura and Simon founded the company in 2013 after running into shipping problems while building an online store of their own.
Day to day, a merchant connects a store such as Shopify, WooCommerce, Square, or Etsy, and orders arrive in the Shippo dashboard. The user enters box dimensions and weight, compares discounted rates, and prints the label. Bulk editing and printing, CSV imports, packing slips, and manifests handle higher order volumes. Tracking updates go to shoppers automatically, and return labels can be generated when a customer sends an item back. Pro adds pick lists with scan-to-print for pick and pack, while customs forms and commercial invoices support international shipments.
Small businesses, high-volume shippers, marketplaces, third-party logistics providers, and software companies all use Shippo. The Starter plan is free and covers up to 30 labels per month with one user login. Pro starts at $17 per month, billed annually at $205 per year, and covers up to 10,000 labels per month with up to five users. Premier is priced on request and adds unlimited shipments, 15 or more user logins, and a dedicated account manager. API calls outside of label purchases are billed separately at API Starter rates.
Several features set Shippo apart from single-carrier label tools. Store connections are unlimited on every plan, and the company states there are no hidden fees beyond postage, the subscription, and optional insurance and address validation. Merchants can connect their own carrier accounts on any plan, at 5 cents per label on Starter and free on Pro and Premier. For platforms, Shippo for Platforms offers white-label and grey-label options, merchant sub-accounts, and embeddable Elements components, and Shippo handles carrier compliance and volume commitments that the platform would otherwise negotiate itself.
