Bottom line

Little Green Light is a donor database that covers gifts, contacts, events, memberships and volunteers in one web-based system. Its clearest strength is pricing: unlimited users and every feature are included, and the bill depends only on how many constituent records you hold. The main cost to watch is the record-based pricing, which steps up at each tier, along with payment processing fees on online donations. Small and midsize nonprofits that want one shared database without per-seat charges should choose it.

What is Little Green Light?

Little Green Light is a web-based donor management system built for nonprofits that want gifts, contacts, volunteers and members in one database. It replaces scattered spreadsheets with a single constituent record for each supporter, showing gift history, communications, tasks and interests. Chris and Nick Bicknell founded the company in 2007, and it now serves more than 11,000 nonprofits.

Staff use the platform to record gifts, track donor interactions and produce acknowledgments. Thank-you letters, labels and envelopes are created through mail merge, and emails for appeals, event invitations and acknowledgments can be built and scheduled from inside the system. Online donation forms sync gifts directly into existing records. Constituents can be tagged and grouped into saved lists for solicitations, while major gift prospects are managed through a series of stewardship tasks. Membership renewal dates, volunteer hours and grant request tasks are also tracked. Two-step verification is available at login.

Small and midsize nonprofits use Little Green Light most often, including animal shelters, human services agencies, arts organizations, land trusts, schools, libraries and faith-based ministries. Pricing depends on the number of constituent records rather than users. The plan starts at $45 per month for up to 2,500 records and rises to $135 per month at 50,000 records. Every account includes unlimited users, and the first 30 days are free without a credit card.

What sets Little Green Light apart from many donor management tools is that user counts never affect the bill, and every account receives the same full feature set. Subscriptions carry no contract and no cancellation fee, and organizations can export their data when they leave. A network of independent consultants is available for complex data migrations.
